Technical Lead – Wastewater Design – Fareham, UK (Full-Time)
A well-established, fast-growing engineering consultancy delivering critical infrastructure designs across the UK water sector is seeking a Technical Lead – Wastewater Design to join its expanding team in Fareham.
Known for its agility, engineering precision, and long-term relationships with major utilities and principal contractors, this firm plays a key role in the design and assurance of wastewater infrastructure across regulated UK frameworks.
This full-time, office-based position is ideally suited to a design-trained engineer with a minimum of 5 years’ experience working with major UK water utilities (e.g., Thames Water, Southern Water, Anglian Water, or equivalent). Your core responsibility will be to review, validate, and improve wastewater designs before submission to key delivery partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the technical review and QA of wastewater infrastructure designs prior to external submission.
Identify issues in drainage strategy, hydraulic design, compliance, and constructability—working closely with internal designers to raise and resolve them.
Act as the final engineering checkpoint, ensuring all submissions meet client and regulatory standards.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of water utility standards and relevant UK design guidance.
Collaborate with delivery and engineering teams to drive design quality and improve workflows.
Provide ongoing technical mentorship to junior engineers and support design assurance processes.
Liaise with clients and contractors when required to clarify, refine, or defend technical submissions.
Candidate Profile:
Engineering qualified (Civil, Environmental, or similar discipline).
Minimum 5 years' experience in wastewater design, ideally with or on behalf of major UK utilities (e.g., Thames Water, Severn Trent, Anglian Water, etc.).
Strong knowledge of UK wastewater infrastructure planning, sewerage design, and relevant standards.
Proven ability to spot errors, raise technical queries, and ensure submissions are correct and compliant.
Design office experience essential – background must be engineering-led, not purely site or project management.
Excellent communication, document review, and stakeholder liaison skills.
Able to work from the Fareham office 2–3 days per week (minimum); full-time role (no part-time or freelance option).
What’s on Offer:
£65,000 – £75,000 depending on experience
Full-time, permanent role in a growing, specialist engineering consultancy
Work directly with some of the UK's leading water utilities and contractors
Clear technical leadership role with autonomy and influence over design integrity
Supportive, delivery-focused culture with emphasis on quality, flexibility, and progression
