Duties & Responsibilities
• Price up all materials and plant at the tendering stage for projects and supply prices to the Estimating Team including groundwork materials, sub structure, brickwork, carpentry, windows, hiring plant, cabins, cranes etc. ensuring that any potential price increases are factored into the costings
• Seek and partner with reliable vendors/suppliers and create, maintain a database of preferred suppliers, ensuring good relationships maintained with the ‘key’ vendors
• Agree Framework Agreements with International, National and Independent Suppliers
• Meet Suppliers on a regular basis and negotiate best rates with the annual price increases
• Material buying activities including best cost, value, quality of materials to meet project delivery lead times and ensure purchasing delays will not affect contract programmes
• Produce Materials Resources Sheet extracted from the Bill of Quantities document and issue
• Attend pre‐start up meetings for work won and input into the meeting where required to resolve material specification issues
• Liaise with the Accounting function and place material purchase orders/invoices in line with construction programmes onto Sage, Evision and Union Square accounting software
• Follow the Company procedures and educate Sites/new employees on purchasing procedures
• Check and authorise payment purchase invoices, materials and labour and resolve queries of invoices and run reports from Excel spreadsheet
• Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness via Cost Value Reporting (CVR) Monthly to the department head that will form the basis of the Directors Report
• Assist other departments such as Design and Estimating, Surveying, Contracting, as workload dictates, with queries and packages to seek potential cost savings
• To be compliant with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures
Skills & Experience Required
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a similar background of procurement within construction related industry (Residential/Retail/Commercial/New build and
Refurbishment)
• Procuring supplier base materials and/or plant equipment
• Lead, manage and motivate a small team
• Ability and track record of producing Reports for the Board utilising Excel
• Be self‐motivated to work autonomously and manage own workload/diary
• Excellent Time Management /Personal qualities (for example, self‐ motivation)
• Ability to challenge and push back both with internal and external Stakeholders
• Able to work under pressure to meet tight and demanding deadlines
• Ability to work well with a Team
• Familiar with purchase order packages
• Microsoft Dynamics Accounting / Purchase Ordering Software (or similar procurement software)
• Report writing skills (Excel)
Knowledge
• Sound knowledge of building techniques
• Be totally familiar with all relevant drawings and specifications for projects
