Mechanical Site Manager – Commercial/Life Sciences Project, London A well-established M&E contractor with a strong track record of delivering complex engineering projects across the UK and Europe is seeking a Mechanical Site Manager for a flagship commercial and life sciences development in London. This permanent role offers a key leadership opportunity on a technically demanding project, with long-term career prospects and an excellent remuneration package. You will take a lead on-site role, supporting the Project Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations, supervising mechanical teams and subcontractors, and driving standards in safety, quality, and performance. This position is ideal for a proactive and experienced manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Project Manager in overseeing all site-based mechanical activities and supervision of direct labour and subcontractors.
Lead by example on all safety and quality expectations, enforcing the highest standards at all times.
Take ownership of mechanical works on site, following and enforcing all health and safety protocols.
Ensure operatives are appropriately trained and competent for their assigned tasks.
Plan ahead for labour and materials, ensuring efficient resource deployment and minimal disruption to the programme.
Manage and track subcontractor performance against programme, addressing delays or issues as they arise.
Foster strong working relationships with subcontractors, ensuring clear communication and accountability.
Maintain direct oversight of site personnel and supervisors, addressing any performance or conduct issues as needed.
Verify all materials against specifications before installation, ensuring compliance with project standards.
Implement the quality plan effectively, driving completion of snag items within agreed timeframes.
Assist in final handover stages and client-facing closeout activities.
Ensure all works align with project scope and that any changes are approved by the Project Manager prior to execution.
Requirements:
Trade or degree qualification in a mechanical or building services discipline.
5+ years of experience in a mechanical construction management or supervisory role.
Strong background in delivering mechanical packages on commercial, life sciences, or similarly complex projects.
In-depth understanding of the construction and mechanical installation process, from design through to commissioning.
Ability to lead teams effectively, communicate clearly, and maintain site standards under pressure.
Experience managing subcontractors, coordinating multiple trades, and driving site productivity.
Solid knowledge of quality assurance processes and health and safety protocols.
