Design Manager Our client is a multi-disciplined main contractor operating across the UK and Europe with a turnover of €750m and sustained annual growth of 5%–7.5%. The Role Requirements What’s on Offer This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Design Manager to play a pivotal role in the delivery of one of Europe’s most advanced data centre projects.
Due to a recent project win, our client is now seeking an experienced Design Manager to join the project team on a major data centre development in Frankfurt, Germany. This is a key role responsible for managing the design process on a complex, fast-paced project from pre-construction through to delivery.
Reporting to the Project Director, the Design Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing all design activities to ensure the project is delivered safely, on programme, and in line with client requirements. Key responsibilities include:
• Managing the design process from concept through to construction and handover
• Coordinating design consultants, specialist subcontractors, and internal teams
• Ensuring design information is issued in line with the construction programme
• Managing design change, value engineering, and buildability reviews
• Ensuring compliance with client specifications, statutory requirements, and industry standards
• Chairing and managing design team meetings and technical workshops
• Supporting procurement through technical input and design development
• Working closely with commercial, construction, and commissioning teams
• Ensuring quality, safety, and technical risk are effectively managed through design
• Degree-qualified in Architecture, Engineering, or a related construction discipline
• Proven experience in a Design Manager role with a main contractor
• Strong background delivering large-scale, technically complex projects
(data centres, pharma, life sciences, or similar highly serviced environments advantageous)
• Excellent understanding of the design and construction process
• Strong coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to manage multiple design packages in a fast-paced environment
• Familiarity with BIM processes and digital design coordination tools
• Willingness to be site-based in Frankfurt (relocation or expat package typically available)
