Senior Quantity Surveyor/ Commercial Managers – Data Centre Projects Location: Germany A leading international engineering and construction contractor is seeking an Expert Quantity Surveyor to join a major data centre project in Germany. This position sits within a structured commercial governance framework focused on preconstruction commercial management, cost certainty, procurement strategy, and value engineering across large-scale mission-critical developments. The role offers long-term project exposure within one of Europe’s most active hyperscale markets. You will collaborate closely with Design, Project Controls, Procurement, and Construction teams to ensure budgets are accurate, risks are mitigated, and commercial processes align with structured governance standards.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates and elemental cost plans
• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
• Previous hyperscale or colocation data centre experience
• Major hyperscale data centre project in Germany

The Expert Quantity Surveyor will lead preconstruction commercial activities, ensuring robust cost planning, risk management, and procurement alignment prior to construction execution.
Key Responsibilities
• Analyse drawings, technical specifications, and tender documentation
• Develop budgets in line with structured commercial procedures
• Utilise digital quantification tools (Bluebeam, CostX, Revit)
• Support procurement strategy including package breakdown and long-lead item identification
• Issue tenders and manage subcontract bid evaluation
• Lead subcontractor negotiations
• Advise on procurement and cost strategy
• Review design for value engineering and cost optimisation opportunities
• Monitor project budgets to prevent overruns
• Prepare and manage cash flow forecasts
• Identify and manage variations and change control
• Manage subcontractor applications, variations, and final accounts
• Provide commercial input to CVR reporting
• Maintain accurate and auditable commercial documentation
Essential Criteria
• Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience with a main contractor
• Proven experience on large-scale commercial or mission-critical construction projects
• Strong subcontract package negotiation experience
• High level of numerical accuracy and analytical capability
• Strong Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel essential)
• Clear communication and reporting skills
• Experience operating within structured commercial governance environments
Desirable
• Experience in advanced manufacturing or pharmaceutical construction
• Exposure to modular construction techniques
• Experience working on projects in Germany or wider EU
