We are working with a leading European engineering contractor delivering major hyperscale and enterprise data centre projects across Europe. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their pre-construction and engineering team based in Dublin.

This role will focus on supporting major mission-critical projects through early-stage design development, technical assurance, value engineering, constructability reviews, and coordination with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal delivery teams.

You will play a key role in influencing design, procurement, cost, and programme outcomes on complex, high-value projects from concept through to delivery.

This role suits an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with strong contractor-side or mission-critical project experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced technical environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support pre-construction and engineering teams on major data centre projects
• Review mechanical designs, specifications, drawings, and tender documentation
• Lead value engineering exercises to optimise mechanical design solutions
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors
• Manage design interfaces between multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
• Lead and coordinate the design process through RIBA project stages
• Review equipment selections and prepare procurement packages
• Assess subcontractor and supplier tender returns for technical compliance
• Identify design risks, programme constraints, and mitigation strategies
• Support construction methodology reviews and logistics planning
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, codes, and legislation
• Mentor junior engineers and support technical development within the team
• Support innovation, engineering improvements, and best practice initiatives

About You

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
• 8+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering within a contractor or mission-critical environment
• Strong experience delivering data centre, pharma, or large-scale commercial projects
• Excellent understanding of HVAC, critical cooling, plumbing, and fire protection systems
• Knowledge of electrical systems supporting mechanical plant
• Strong understanding of value engineering, constructability, and technical coordination
• Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and stakeholders
• Proficient with Navisworks, ACC, Bluebeam, or similar platforms
• Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills
