An established engineering contractor with a strong UK presence is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Glasgow. This role offers a long-term opportunity to lead the commercial delivery of major high-voltage (HV) electrical projects, including substations, cable works, and switchgear installations across the region.
This is a pivotal position for a commercially astute QS with technical knowledge and project experience in electrical infrastructure works.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the financial performance of complex HV electrical projects from tender to final account
Produce BOQs, profit plans, cash flows, and forecasting models for multiple work packages
Prepare and negotiate interim and final accounts with subcontractors and clients
Ensure accurate submission of payment applications and progress valuations
Oversee the administration of contracts, change control, and variations
Liaise with project managers and planning engineers to assess project progress against financial targets
Support the procurement process by advising on commercial risks, costs, and subcontract terms
Monitor remeasurements, dayworks, and site instructions; identify and recover cost escalations
Maintain comprehensive project records and commercial documentation
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Candidate Profile:
Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or similar field
Minimum 5 years' experience as a QS working on electrical projects >£7m in value
Experience with high-voltage systems, substations, or power infrastructure projects is essential
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and commercial software systems
Working knowledge of JCT/NEC contracts and associated commercial practices
Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines under pressure
Strong negotiation and communication skills with an analytical mindset
Background as an electrician or electrical engineer is beneficial but not essential
