Senior Electrical Quantity Surveyor – Substation & HV Projects – Glasgow

An established engineering contractor with a strong UK presence is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Glasgow. This role offers a long-term opportunity to lead the commercial delivery of major high-voltage (HV) electrical projects, including substations, cable works, and switchgear installations across the region.

This is a pivotal position for a commercially astute QS with technical knowledge and project experience in electrical infrastructure works.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the financial performance of complex HV electrical projects from tender to final account
  • Produce BOQs, profit plans, cash flows, and forecasting models for multiple work packages
  • Prepare and negotiate interim and final accounts with subcontractors and clients
  • Ensure accurate submission of payment applications and progress valuations
  • Oversee the administration of contracts, change control, and variations
  • Liaise with project managers and planning engineers to assess project progress against financial targets
  • Support the procurement process by advising on commercial risks, costs, and subcontract terms
  • Monitor remeasurements, dayworks, and site instructions; identify and recover cost escalations
  • Maintain comprehensive project records and commercial documentation
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Candidate Profile:

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or similar field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a QS working on electrical projects >£7m in value
  • Experience with high-voltage systems, substations, or power infrastructure projects is essential
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and commercial software systems
  • Working knowledge of JCT/NEC contracts and associated commercial practices
  • Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills with an analytical mindset
  • Background as an electrician or electrical engineer is beneficial but not essential
