An experienced Authorised Person (Electrical) is required to join a major data centre project in Frankfurt, Germany. This is a critical site-based role, responsible for the safe operation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems (LV/MV) across the site. You will work closely with Senior Authorised Persons, Energy Marshalls, and the Commissioning team to enforce electrical safety procedures, manage permits, and support energisation activities.
This is a hands-on role for qualified electricians or electrical engineers with strong high-voltage and medium-voltage experience. The position offers exposure to technically complex, mission-critical data centre infrastructure and a collaborative, safety-driven work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Enforce Mercury’s Electrical Safe System of Work (ESSOW) and ensure adherence to Control of Hazardous Energies Procedures
Issue, approve, and manage permits for all LV and MV electrical works
Follow Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and permit-to-work systems to ensure safe energisation and isolation
Conduct regular audits, inspections, and reporting of site electrical safety
Ensure segregation of hazardous areas and proper use of PPE
Assist in internal audits such as COHE self-assessments and temporary electrics inspections
Support Senior Authorised Persons to remain compliant with site safety standards
Identify potential hazards and implement mitigation measures
Perform testing, commissioning, and energisation of electrical systems including MCCs, VSDs, distribution panels, motors, lighting, and small power circuits
Review and interpret project drawings, SLDs, wiring diagrams, schematics, and vendor manuals
Conduct insulation resistance, point-to-point, grounding, and live-dead-live testing
Execute switching schedules in coordination with the Energy Marshall and SAP
Inspect and sign off panels, perform pre-energisation checklists, and approve energisation requests within nominated voltage ranges
Participate in commissioning activities from Level 1 through Level 5, supporting the full system handover
Monitor and advise on PPE and safety equipment condition, ensuring calibration and replacements as needed
Assist in electrical incident investigations
Maintain accurate records in Mercury’s snagging and progress systems
Report all electrical events to SAP and the Commissioning Authority (CxA) promptly
Issue weekly progress reports highlighting changes in electrical conditions
Provide timely updates and guidance to project engineers, site supervisors, and commissioning teams
Essential Criteria
Qualified electrician (National Craft Certificate or equivalent Level 6 qualification) or equivalent electrical engineering award
Minimum 3+ years’ experience on MV systems, with additional LV experience preferred
Completed recognised MV/HV switching course if nominated for MV Authorised Person
Strong understanding of electrical testing, verification, and commissioning procedures
Proven experience delivering HV/MV infrastructure projects, including data centres, DNO/IDNO networks, or power generation facilities
Knowledge of EN and local electrical regulations and standards
Experienced in supervising advanced cable works, phasing, testing, and spiking (where licenced)
