Commercial Fit Out - Andover, Hampshire

Our client is a well-established multi-disciplined main contractor and engineering services company with over 75 years of successful trading and a strong national presence. Renowned for delivering high-quality, technically complex projects across multiple sectors, they continue to expand their operations and are experiencing exceptional growth within their dedicated commercial fit-out and refurbishment division.
Due to continued project wins, the company now requires an experienced Project Manager to oversee the delivery of a high-value commercial office fit-out scheme in Andover, Hampshire, for a prestigious international blue-chip client.
This opportunity is offered initially on a freelance basis (6+ months), with a view to ongoing work or potential permanent employment given the significant pipeline of follow-on projects in the region.

Role Overview:
As Project Manager, you will take full ownership of the project from pre-construction through to handover, ensuring that programme, quality, safety, and commercial objectives are met. Working closely with the client, design consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams, you will manage every stage of the project lifecycle, from planning and procurement through to delivery and completion.
The current scheme is progressing into the Cat B fit-out phase, so you will play a critical leadership role in driving site performance, coordination, and quality standards through to final completion.

Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Construction & Planning:
Work with the pre-construction team to review drawings, specifications, and client requirements.
Assist in developing project programmes, logistics plans, and sequencing strategies.
Lead early engagement with key subcontractors and suppliers to ensure delivery readiness.
Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies before mobilisation.
Delivery & Construction:
Lead all on-site activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of the works.
Manage subcontractor coordination and sequencing across multiple trades during fit-out stages.
Monitor progress against programme, proactively addressing delays or resource constraints.
Chair regular progress, design, and coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure full compliance with health & safety standards and company procedures (H&S, QA, environmental).
Oversee cost control and work closely with commercial teams to manage budgets and variations.
Drive high standards of workmanship, client communication, and attention to detail throughout delivery.
Completion & Handover:
Oversee testing, commissioning, and quality close-out processes.
Manage snagging, client inspections, and final handover documentation.
Ensure delivery of a fully operational, defect-free space to the client’s satisfaction.
Provide post-completion support where required and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Candidate Requirements:
Proven experience as a Project Manager on commercial office fit-out or refurbishment projects, ideally valued at £5m+.
Strong understanding of both Cat A and Cat B fit-out delivery.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage diverse project teams.
Commercially astute, with strong planning and problem-solving capabilities.
Thorough knowledge of construction processes, health & safety legislation, and fit-out sequencing.
Current SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid certifications are essential.
Experience with blue-chip or corporate clients is advantageous.

What’s on Offer:

Competitive freelance day rate.
Opportunity for ongoing work in the region or transition to a permanent position (if desired)
