Our client is an international design and design management consultancy specialising in data centre and mission-critical environments. They deliver end-to-end design solutions across Mechanical, Electrical, and CSA / Architectural disciplines for some of the world’s leading technology clients.
They are now seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team on a hyperscale data centre project in Frankfurt, Germany for a top global technology client. This high-profile role offers the opportunity to lead the mechanical design of a technically complex, mission-critical facility from concept through to delivery.
Reporting to the Design Manager / Project Director, the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will take responsibility for all aspects of mechanical design, ensuring compliance with client requirements, international standards, and best practice in hyperscale and mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and deliver mechanical design packages for hyperscale mission-critical systems, including HVAC, chilled water, cooling, and redundancy systems
• Coordinate with electrical, CSA, and architectural teams to ensure fully integrated, clash-free designs
• Review and approve mechanical design calculations, drawings, and specifications
• Lead value engineering, design optimisation, and buildability reviews
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and consultants to ensure design intent, reliability, and quality standards are maintained
• Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers on the project team
• Ensure all designs comply with health, safety, environmental, and sustainability requirements
• Support construction-stage queries, site coordination, and commissioning activities as required
• Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Extensive experience designing mechanical systems for hyperscale or mission-critical data centres
• Strong understanding of cooling, HVAC, chilled water, and high-reliability systems
• Proven experience leading mechanical design teams on large-scale, technically complex projects
• Familiarity with BIM and other digital design coordination tools
• Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills
• Fluency in English; additional European languages (German) advantageous
• Willingness to be based in Frankfurt for the duration of the project
