Environmental Specialist – Power & Renewables Projects – Inverurie, Scotland

An established engineering and construction contractor with a strong pipeline in power transmission and renewable energy is seeking a proactive Environmental Specialist to support key infrastructure projects across Scotland and the wider UK.

This is a permanent opportunity suited to a motivated environmental professional with a strong background in compliance, site monitoring, and sustainability within the infrastructure or energy sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the environmental lead across assigned power and renewables construction sites, ensuring full compliance with regulatory, client, and company standards.
  • Develop and implement Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs), and site-specific environmental procedures.
  • Conduct regular environmental inspections and audits, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support to project teams and subcontractors on environmental best practices, obligations, and licensing requirements.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring activities, including noise, dust, water, and ecological assessments, and interpret findings for project reporting.
  • Liaise with environmental regulators (e.g., SEPA), clients, and statutory bodies throughout project lifecycle.
  • Deliver environmental toolbox talks and awareness training for site personnel.
  • Support sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives within the project scope.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on environmental performance, permits, incidents, and audit outcomes.

Candidate Profile:

  • Degree-qualified in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an environmental role within infrastructure, utilities, energy, or construction sectors.
  • In-depth understanding of UK and Scottish environmental legislation and compliance frameworks (e.g., EIA, SEPA, protected species licensing).
  • Confident working across multiple project sites, managing environmental risk and driving best practice on the ground.
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement, auditing, and environmental documentation.
  • Membership of IEMA, CIWEM, or a similar professional body is advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence required due to regional site travel.
