A leading UK-based engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Lead to support the delivery of high-value data centre and pharmaceutical projects across Portugal and Europe.

This consultancy is recognised for delivering complex, mission-critical facilities for global technology and life-science clients. With a strong pipeline of hyperscale data centres and regulated pharmaceutical developments, the business is expanding its senior electrical leadership team to support long-term growth.

This role offers senior technical ownership, genuine flexibility through hybrid and remote working, and the opportunity to influence electrical design strategy on some of Europe’s most technically demanding projects.

As Electrical Design Lead, you will be responsible for leading the electrical design function across multiple projects, ensuring safe, resilient, and compliant electrical systems from concept through to construction and commissioning support. You will act as the senior technical authority, working closely with clients, multidisciplinary design teams, and construction partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design delivery across data centre and pharmaceutical projects
• Take ownership of design quality, compliance, and client technical standards
• Develop and review HV/LV systems, UPS, generators, power distribution, and resilience strategies
• Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, CSA, and process teams
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, international standards, and client specifications
• Provide technical leadership through all project stages including construction and commissioning
• Interface directly with clients, contractors, and key stakeholders
• Support value engineering, constructability reviews, and risk management
• Mentor and develop junior and intermediate electrical engineers

Requirements

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
• 10+ years’ experience in electrical building services design
• Strong background in data centres and/or pharmaceutical facilities
• Proven experience leading electrical design teams on complex projects
• In-depth knowledge of HV/LV systems, critical power, and redundancy philosophies
• Confident client-facing professional with strong communication skills
• Ability to operate autonomously in a senior leadership role
• Comfortable working in a hybrid / remote model with travel as required
