Project Director 

Data Centre Groundworks & Civil Engineering, Vienna, Austria

Our client is a leading groundworks and civil engineering contractor delivering major construction packages for hyperscale data centre projects across Europe. Specialising in complex earthworks, foundations, and underground services, they are responsible for high-value, technically challenging packages from design through to completion.

They are now seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the €75m groundworks and underground services package for a major data centre project in Vienna.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead overall delivery of the groundworks and civil engineering scope, ensuring the project is executed safely, on time, and within budget.
• Act as the senior point of contact for the client, design teams, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
• Oversee project planning, programming, and resource allocation, ensuring alignment with overall construction schedules.
• Manage site operations, including excavation, piling, foundations, drainage, utilities, and underground services installations.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and implement proactive safety management across the project.
• Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance, resolving technical, commercial, or operational issues as they arise.
• Review and approve technical designs, drawings, method statements, and risk assessments in collaboration with engineering teams.
• Implement robust QA/QC processes, ensuring works meet project specifications, quality standards, and client expectations.
• Lead project risk management, maintaining risk registers and reporting key risks and mitigation strategies to senior stakeholders.
• Provide regular progress, financial, and programme reports to senior management and the client.
• Promote a collaborative, high-performance culture across all teams and stakeholders.

Requirements:
Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Minimum 15 years’ experience managing large-scale groundworks, civil engineering, or complex infrastructure projects, ideally within the data centre or industrial sector.
Proven track record of leading high-value construction packages, with strong commercial and programme management skills.
Extensive knowledge of civil engineering processes, underground services installation, and construction methods.
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Experience with risk management, QA/QC procedures, and HSE compliance on major construction projects.
Fluency in English; German language skills advantageous.
