Our client is a leading international contractor delivering complex, large-scale construction projects across Europe. With a strong reputation for technical excellence and high-quality project delivery, the company operates across a wide range of sectors including commercial developments, advanced manufacturing, infrastructure, and mission-critical data centre facilities.
Due to continued growth within the data centre sector, our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to join the delivery team on a major data centre project in Portugal.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all mechanical commissioning activities, ensuring systems are tested, validated, and handed over in line with project requirements and client expectations. Working closely with project management, MEP teams, subcontractors, and client representatives, the Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will play a key role in ensuring all mechanical systems are fully operational, compliant, and performance-tested prior to handover.
The successful candidate will work closely with construction teams, vendors, and commissioning managers to ensure all mechanical systems are commissioned in accordance with design intent, project programme, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities
• Plan, coordinate, and execute mechanical commissioning activities on a large-scale data centre project in Portugal
• Carry out testing and validation of mechanical systems including HVAC, chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, piping, and associated infrastructure
• Develop and review commissioning procedures, method statements, and test scripts
• Ensure all commissioning activities are performed in accordance with project specifications, standards, and safety requirements
• Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and third-party specialists during commissioning phases
• Support and participate in factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT)
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues during testing and commissioning phases
• Maintain accurate commissioning documentation including test results, reports, and handover records
• Work closely with QA/QC teams to ensure systems meet required quality standards
• Assist in integrated systems testing (IST) and final system validation
• Ensure smooth transition from construction to commissioning and final handover
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout all commissioning activities
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, international standards, and company procedures
